Chapel-Le-Dale to Ingleborough Walk

4.7 miles (7.5 km)

This walk takes you from the Yorkshire Dales village of Chapel-Le-Dale to Ingleborough Nature Reserve and then onto the Ingleborough Mountain summit.
The walk can be started from the parking area on Low Sleights Road. After leaving the car park, the path leads you past Highwood Pasture, where the terrain transitions into the heart of the Ingleborough National Nature Reserve.... This area is world-renowned for its extensive limestone pavements and hidden cave systems, including the famous Great Douk Cave, where the sound of subterranean waterfalls often echoes through the rocky grykes.
Continuing through the reserve, you traverse the lower slopes toward Humphrey Bottom, a relatively flat, marshy basin that sits directly beneath the towering western face of the mountain. From here, the trail turns west for the final, steep climb up a well-maintained stone pitched path that zig-zags through the crags to reach the expansive summit plateau. At the top, you are rewarded with 360-degree views across the Silverdale coast and the distant Lake District fells, while the large summit cairn and the remains of an Iron Age hillfort provide a historic backdrop to the rugged scenery.
You can continue your walking in the area by heading to Twistleton Scar. The walk also starts in the village.
