Fowley's Falls and Glenaniff River Walk

1.4 miles (2.3 km)

This walk takes you along the Glenaniff River to Fowley's Falls near Lough Melvin in County Leitrim.
The route runs beside the river through a narrow, wooded glen beneath the slopes of Benbo and the Dartry Mountains, with limestone outcrops and moss-covered rocks reflecting the area’s karst geology. Mature woodland lines much of the path, with alder, ash and hazel common along the riverbanks, and the sound of flowing water is a constant presence throughout the walk.
Fowley’s Falls is reached where the river drops sharply through a rocky cleft, forming a broad cascade that is particularly impressive after rainfall.... The glen is a quiet area with limited development, and walkers may see birds such as grey wagtail or dipper near the water, while red squirrel has been recorded in the surrounding woodland. The return follows the same route, making this a straightforward out-and-back walk with a clear natural focus and minimal navigation demands.
You can continue your walking in the area by visiting nearby Lough Melvin or picking up the Rougey Cliff Walk near Bundoran.
