Knockroe
5 miles (8 km)This walk climbs to the summit of Knockroe in County Carlow.
The mountain stands at 540 metres (1,772 ft) on the border between County Carlow and County Wexford.
Knockroe is notable for its religious and historical landmarks, including a "Holy Year Cross" erected in 1950 and restored in 2017, accompanied by a Marian statue. Near the summit, hikers can find the ruins of a stone building known as the Round House.... The surrounding landscape is steeped in history, featuring the "Giant's Table" portal tomb on its slopes and proximity to the site of a 1941 Luftwaffe bombing in the nearby valley. The terrain is typical of the Irish uplands, often described as a mix of rocky paths, grassy ridges, and boggy ground that requires sturdy, waterproof footwear for a safe ascent.
You can continue your walking in the area by heading a short distance south and picking up the Blackstairs Mountain Walk. Knockroe is also often visited as part of a larger trekking route to its parent peak, Mount Leinster.
