Marazion to Prussia Cove and Praa Sands Coastal Walk
5.8 miles (9.3 km)This walk follows the South West Coast Path from Marazion to Prussia Cove and Praa Sands. The route runs for just under 6 miles, following the waymarked footpath east to Perranuthnoe, Prussia Cove and Kenneggy Sand.... The route then continues to Sydney Cover and Praa Sands where you finish at the lovely long beach.
The route explores the eastern side of Mount's Bay, with fine views across the water towards St Michael's Mount and the far-reaching coastline of west Cornwall. After passing through Perranuthnoe, the path traverses a series of low cliffs and sheltered coves, with stretches of coastal grassland and farmland extending inland from the sea.
One of the highlights is Prussia Cove, a secluded and picturesque inlet with a fascinating smuggling history. The cove is closely associated with the notorious 18th-century smuggler John Carter, known as the "King of Prussia", who used the hidden coves and caves along this stretch of coast to land contraband. Today the area is much quieter, with rocky shores, clear waters and a collection of historic buildings overlooking the sea.
Beyond Kenneggy Sand and Sydney Cove, the route continues along an attractive section of coastline before reaching Praa Sands. The expansive sandy beach is one of the largest in Mount's Bay and is backed by dunes and cliffs, providing a fitting end to the walk.
