Newlyn to Mousehole Walk
1.9 miles (3.1 km)This walk runs along the Newlyn to Mousehole. It's about a 2 mile walk, following the waymarked trail south from Newlyn Harbour to Penlee Point before finishing at Mousehole Harbour.
Starting in Newlyn, the route passes through one of the UK's most important fishing ports, where the harbour remains a busy centre for the Cornish fishing industry.... The waterfront is also known for its artistic heritage, with the town giving its name to the Newlyn School of Art, a group of influential painters inspired by the area's maritime scenery and distinctive light.
Beyond the harbour, the path follows the edge of Mount's Bay to Penlee Point, where there are fine views across the water towards St Michael's Mount and the distant coastline of west Cornwall. The point is also notable for the nearby Penlee Lifeboat Station, which commemorates the crew lost in the tragic 1981 rescue attempt off the Cornish coast.
The walk finishes in Mousehole, one of Cornwall's most picturesque fishing villages. Narrow lanes and granite cottages surround the small harbour, which provides a sheltered haven on an otherwise exposed coastline. The village has long attracted artists and visitors, while the harbour and surrounding rocky shores support a variety of seabirds and marine life. The combination of working harbours, maritime history and superb views across Mount's Bay makes this one of the most rewarding short coastal walks in west Cornwall.
