Poole to Lyme Regis Walk

83.9 miles (135 km)

This walk follows the South West Coast Path from Poole to Lyme Regis. The route covers almost the entire length of Dorset's coastline, passing the magnificent Jurassic Coast, with visits to Swanage, Kimmeridge Bay, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Weymouth, Abbotsbury, West Bay, Golden Cap and Charmouth before finishing at the famous Cobb in Lyme Regis....
This is one of the finest long-distance coastal walks in England, linking sheltered harbours, dramatic limestone cliffs, secluded coves and expansive beaches. The route passes through an extraordinary variety of landscapes, from the sandy shores of Poole Harbour and the chalk headlands around Swanage to the towering cliffs, natural arches and fossil-rich coastline that have made Dorset internationally renowned.
Highlights include the chalk stacks of Old Harry Rocks, the sweeping bay at Worbarrow, the natural limestone arch of Durdle Door, the horseshoe-shaped cove at Lulworth, the long shingle ridge of Chesil Beach and the panoramic summit of Golden Cap, the highest point on England's south coast. Along the way the path traverses coastal grassland, ancient landslips, river estuaries and picturesque fishing villages, with frequent views across Lyme Bay and the English Channel.
The walk finishes in Lyme Regis, one of the highlights of the Jurassic Coast. The historic Cobb harbour, fossil-rich beaches, Georgian seafront and the Lyme Regis Museum reflect the town's rich maritime history and internationally important geological heritage, with the museum celebrating the work of pioneering fossil collector Mary Anning.
