Sidmouth to Lyme Regis Walk

This walk follows the South West Coast Path from Sidmouth to Lyme Regis. The route runs for 15.4 miles following the waymarked trail east to Branscombe and Seaton before finishing at the famous Cobb in Lyme Regis.
This is one of the classic long-distance walks on the Jurassic Coast, linking the red sandstone cliffs of East Devon with the fossil-rich coastline of west Dorset.... The route passes through a succession of dramatic headlands, secluded coves and picturesque coastal villages, with extensive views across Lyme Bay for much of the walk.
East of Sidmouth, the path traverses the spectacular cliffs of Salcombe Hill and Weston Cliff before descending to Branscombe, one of Devon's oldest villages, with its thatched cottages and long pebble beach. Beyond Beer Head, the chalk cliffs provide some of the finest viewpoints on the route before the path reaches Seaton at the mouth of the River Axe. The Axe Estuary is an important nature reserve supporting wading birds, wildfowl and other wetland wildlife throughout the year.
From Seaton, the route continues beneath the towering landslips and wooded undercliffs between Axmouth and Lyme Regis, part of the internationally important Axmouth to Lyme Regis Undercliffs National Nature Reserve. This remarkable landscape was created by ancient landslides and now supports one of England's largest areas of natural woodland, with a rich variety of ferns, lichens and woodland birds.
The walk finishes in Lyme Regis, one of the most historic towns on the south coast. The town is famous for its fossil heritage, historic harbour known as the Cobb, attractive Georgian seafront and the Lyme Regis Museum, which explores the area's geology and the pioneering work of fossil collector Mary Anning.
