Stepaside to Wisemans Bridge Walk
1.2 miles (1.9 km)This walk takes you from Stepaside to Wisemans Bridge via the Pleasant Valley.
The route follows a largely level and surfaced path that traces the bed of a former mineral railway, making it exceptionally accessible for all ages. As you move through the lush woodland of Pleasant Valley, you pass the historic remains of the Stepaside Ironworks and various old colliery workings.... These atmospheric ruins, now partially reclaimed by nature, offer a glimpse into the area’s industrial heritage during the 19th century. The valley is a haven for wildlife; the dense canopy of oak and ash provides a home for nuthatches and woodpeckers, while the quiet stream that runs alongside the path is often visited by kingfishers and grey wagtails.
As the valley opens up, the woodland gives way to sea views as you arrive at the coastal hamlet of Wisemans Bridge. This section of the trail is part of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and is framed by dramatic rock strata and a wide, pebbly beach that reveals expansive sands at low tide. The area is perfect for a coastal break, with the popular Wisemans Bridge Inn offering a traditional waterside spot to rest. If you continue along the seawall, you can even follow the dramatic cliff tunnels through to Saundersfoot, maintaining the easy-going pace that defines this picturesque walk.
