Saundersfoot to Monkstone Beach Walk

1.3 miles (2.1 km)

This walk takes you from Saundersfoot to Monkstone Beach on the Pembrokeshire Coast.
The route follows a scenic and well-defined section of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, heading south from the bustling harbour of Saundersfoot. As you leave the town, the trail ascends through ancient woodland and high clifftop paths, offering spectacular views across Carmarthen Bay towards Caldey Island and the Gower Peninsula.... This stretch is known for its dramatic coastal geology, featuring steep sandstone cliffs and secluded inlets that remain largely untouched by development. The path can be undulating with several steep steps, so sturdy footwear is recommended for the journey.
Monkstone Beach itself is a hidden gem, often far quieter than the neighbouring resort beaches due to its more remote access. The beach is characterised by its expansive golden sands and interesting rock pools, which are revealed at low tide. This intertidal zone is a fantastic spot for observing marine life, such as anemones, crabs, and small fish. Birdwatchers should keep a lookout for oystercatchers and curlews along the shoreline, while the clifftops are often frequented by kestrels and stonechats. The descent to the beach is via a steep set of steps, providing a sense of discovery as you arrive at this peaceful, sheltered cove.
