The Lawley Walk
2.5 miles (4 km)This walk climbs to The Lawley in the Shropshire Hills near Caer Caradoc and the Long Mynd. You can start the walk from the small parking area just to the east of the hill.... From here you head west for just over a mile to reach the 377 metre high summit.
The distinctive ridge runs north to south along the eastern side of the Long Mynd. The hill is covered largely by rough grassland and heather, with open slopes providing uninterrupted views for much of the ascent. The relatively modest height is offset by its prominent position above the surrounding countryside, making it an excellent viewpoint.
From the summit ridge there are extensive panoramas across the Shropshire Hills National Landscape. To the west lie the broad uplands of the Long Mynd, while nearby Caer Caradoc rises prominently to the south west. On clear days, views extend across the Stretton Valley towards The Wrekin and the Welsh hills beyond the border.
The hill has a remote, open character despite its proximity to Church Stretton, and supports a variety of upland birds and wildflowers typical of the Shropshire hills. The combination of a straightforward ascent, wide-ranging views and its position alongside some of the county's most celebrated hills makes The Lawley a rewarding short walk.
