Waterworks Valley and Millbrook Reservoir St Lawrence

This walk takes you through the Waterworks Valley in the centre of Jersey, near St Lawrence.
Starting from Handois Reservoir you head south passing the sites of several historic watermills. These mills would once have been used for milling corn, fulling cloth, crushing sugar, making paper and grinding malt for beer.
As you head south, the landscape is dominated by a lush canopy of mature broadleaf trees, creating a "tunnel of green" that remains cool even on the warmest Jersey summer days.
The route follows the stream that once powered the island’s historic mills, and you will soon pass the Handois Pumping Station, a fine example of Victorian industrial architecture.... The path is well-surfaced and relatively flat, making it an easy stroll rather than a strenuous hike. Keep an eye out for the island's famous red squirrels darting through the branches or the grey herons that often stand motionless by the water’s edge.
As you continue deeper into the heart of the valley, the sound of trickling water stays with you, passing through areas of managed woodland and open glades. You will eventually reach the northern tip of Millbrook Reservoir. Here, the valley opens up slightly, and the path skirts the western edge of the water. This final stretch offers beautiful reflections of the surrounding trees on the still surface of the reservoir before you reach the southern dam. The walk concludes at the bottom of the valley, where the rural peace begins to transition back into the coastal outskirts of St. Aubin’s Bay.
