Weston Super Mare to Burnham On Sea Walk
9.1 miles (14.7 km)This walk takes you along the England Coast Path from Weston-Super-Mare to Burnham on Sea. It's just over 9 miles heading south along Weston Beach to Uphill where you cross the River Axe.... You then head to Brean where you continue south along the Berrow Flats and the long beach to Burnham.
This varied coastal walk links three of Somerset's best-known seaside resorts, combining sandy beaches, nature reserves and expansive views across the Bristol Channel. The route passes through a landscape of dunes, saltmarsh and grazing marsh that supports an abundance of coastal wildlife, while the open beaches provide uninterrupted views towards South Wales and the islands of the Bristol Channel.
After crossing the River Axe, the route heads through Brean, where walkers can make a short detour to the distinctive limestone headland of Brean Down. Managed by the National Trust, the headland is crowned by the remains of a Victorian fort and offers superb panoramic views over Weston Bay, the Severn Estuary and the Mendip Hills. South of Brean, the route follows the wide sands of Berrow Flats, backed by one of the largest dune systems in Somerset. These dunes support a rich variety of wildflowers, butterflies and coastal birds, while the beach stretches for several miles towards Burnham-on-Sea.
The walk finishes at Burnham-on-Sea, a traditional seaside town known for its long sandy beach, distinctive low lighthouse standing on the sands and busy esplanade. The town also marks the mouth of the River Parrett and provides easy access to the nearby Steart Marshes, one of the UK's largest new wetland nature reserves.
