This circular walk explores the beautiful Applecross peninsula, north-west of Kyle of Lochalsh in Wester Ross, Scottish Highlands.
You can start the walk from the car park at Applecross Bay and then follow the quiet coastal road north to Sand where there is a nice beach.
The walk then returns through the hills where you can enjoy some splendid views toRaasay, Skye and Rona.
The area is also great for wildlife withred deer,pine martens,otters,water voles,adders, blue hare,foxes, a rarewildcat and pipistrelle bats. Birds include tawnyandbarn owls,white tailedandgolden eagles,great skua,arctic tern,great spotted woodpeckers,song thrush,bullfinches,golden plover,skylark,merlin,greenshank,dunlin,redand, occasionally, the rarerblack grouse,dotterel, androck ptarmigan. There also plenty of marine life with common sealsnear the shore, as well asbasking sharks,minke whales,porpoises, andbottlenose dolphins.
To continue your walking in the area head south to the delightful village of Plockton where you can enjoy fine views over Lochcarron.

Further Information and Other Local Ideas

To the north east there's the beautiful Shieldaig Peninsula to explore. There's fine views to Shieldaig Island, Shieldaig Loch and Loch Torridon in this lovely area.

Ancient track. The last section of road around the Applecross peninsula was opened in 1976. Until this, this was the way to go between Cruarg and Sand. The views to the west from the old road are stupendous.
