3.7 miles (5.9 km)

Ordnance Survey Map Open Streetmap This circular walk explores the area to the north of the Wiltshire village of Downton.
On the loop you will enjoy sections through Barford Park and Trafalgar Park before a pleasant waterside stroll along the River Avon.
Starting from Downton Moot, the route leads out of the village through Barford Park, where wide views of gentle hills stretch across the landscape. The countryside here is open and unspoilt, with glimpses of historic estates and woodland.
The path continues towards Trafalgar Park, home to the elegant Georgian-era Trafalgar House, a Grade I listed building set within expansive grounds. Nearby lie the remains of an old chapel, adding to the area’s historic interest.
The walk then reaches Standlynch Mill, a Grade II listed structure on the banks of the River Avon. The riverside section that follows features a mix of fast-flowing channels and quieter waters, with a wooden footbridge offering a picturesque crossing point.
The return journey begins near Charlton-All-Saints and follows a mix of riverside paths and open fields, eventually looping back to Downton. With its combination of natural beauty, riverside views, and historical landmarks, the route offers a rewarding and varied outing. Refreshments are available in Downton at the end of the walk.
