Eynsham Abbey Fishponds Walk
This walk explores the Eynsham Abbey Fishponds Nature Reserve. The reserve is located in a lovely spot just to the south of the Oxfordshire village of Eynsham.
There is a nice circular walk to follow through the site of the ancient abbey where you can enjoy views of the picturesque fishponds and the surrounding water meadows. There is an information board which details the interesting history of the abbey and the ponds. Dogs are also welcome at the site.
You could extend your walk by picking up the Eynsham Lock and River Walk and enjoying a waterside stroll along the Thames.

Medieval Fishpond, Eynsham Meadows. The abbey was a Benedictine monastery between 1005 and 1538. King Æthelred allowed Æthelmær the Stout to found the abbey in 1005. There is some evidence that the abbey was built on the site of an earlier minster, probably founded in the 7th or 8th centuries. The site is a Scheduled Historic Monument.
