Preston to Liverpool Walk
This 36-mile (58km) walk stretches from Tarleton Locks in Preston to Liverpool's Pier Head. It follows the waymarked King Charles III England Coast Path between the two cities.
The route offers a rich blend of natural beauty and cultural landmarks. Highlights include the Ainsdale and Birkdale Sandhills Nature Reserve and RSPB Hesketh Out Marsh, both crucial bird habitats. It then leads through the National Trust's Formby site, known for its dunes, grasslands, and pine woodlands providing a haven for natterjack toads, sand lizards, and red squirrels. Further along, you'll encounter Crosby Beach, home to Anthony Gormley's "Another Place" art installation with its 100 cast-iron figures. The walk concludes at Liverpool's iconic Pier Head, a historic waterfront renowned for its "Three Graces" buildings, the Mersey Ferry, and stunning views of the River Mersey.
