St David's to St Non's and Porthclais Walk
This walk from St David's takes you to two of the local highlights at the historic St Non's church and the delightful Porthclais Harbour.
The route begins in the city of St David's, and heads south to pick up the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.
The initial section of the walk often heads southwest, following well-maintained coastal paths. You'll soon arrive at the dramatic cliffs overlooking St Non's Bay, where the ruins of St Non's Chapel stand as a testament to the birthplace of St David. The site includes a small, tranquil well believed to have sprung up when St David was born, and a modern chapel built nearby. The views from this area are expansive, taking in the rugged coastline and the Irish Sea.
Continuing along the coast path, the walk meanders along cliff tops, offering stunning panoramic views. The terrain can be undulating, with some gentle ascents and descents. Keep an eye out for the diverse birdlife that frequents this stretch of the coast.
The path eventually descends towards the sheltered inlet of Porthclais Harbour. This natural harbor, once a busy trading port, is now a haven for small boats and wildlife. The tidal creek is often filled with wading birds, and the surrounding area is rich in history, with evidence of its past maritime activity. You can explore the quays and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the harbor before either returning to St David's via the coast path or an inland route.
