Sunningdale, Wentworth and Coworth Circular Walk
This circular walk explores the area around the Berkshire village of Sunningdale.
Starting at Sunningdale railway station, you'll follow London Road before taking a footpath through woodland. The trail then circles past the Wentworth Estate, a vast 1,750-acre area surrounding the renowned Wentworth Golf Club. This prestigious estate is home to exclusive shops, restaurants, and premier residences, and has attracted several sporting celebrities.
Further along, the walk passes Coworth House. Set within 240 acres of parkland, this historic property dates back to 1776 and was once owned by the Earl of Derby. Today, it operates as a luxurious country hotel and spa under the Dorchester Collection, maintaining its strong ties to polo, with the season running from April to September.
The walk itself is relatively flat and easy to navigate, with no stiles. Paths vary from woodland tracks and grass paths to tarmac drives through private estates, making for straightforward walking, though some sections may be muddy after rain. Be aware that you will need to cross the busy A30 twice, so exercise caution, especially if you have children or dogs with you.
You can extend the walk by heading north to visit Virginia Water Lake and the famous Windsor Great Park.
