Croyde to Putsborough Walk
3.1 miles (5 km)This walk follows sections of the South West Coast Path, Tarka Trail from Croyde Bay to Putsborough via Baggy Point. The route runs for about 3 miles, following the waymarked trails north west to Baggy Point from the car park at Croyde Bay.... The route then turns east finishing at the lovely beach at Putsborough Sands.
Baggy Point is one of the most distinctive headlands on the North Devon coast, with dramatic cliffs projecting into the Bristol Channel and extensive views towards Lundy Island and across Bideford Bay. The headland is managed by the National Trust and is known for its rich coastal grassland, which supports a variety of wildflowers and butterflies during the warmer months.
The cliffs provide important nesting sites for seabirds including fulmars, cormorants and peregrine falcons, while grey seals are sometimes seen in the waters below. The exposed headland also has an interesting history, having once been used for coastguard duties and wartime training exercises.
The final section descends to Putsborough Sands, a long sandy beach backed by dunes and overlooked by the slopes of Baggy Point. Together with neighbouring Woolacombe Beach, it forms one of the largest stretches of sand in North Devon and is particularly popular with walkers, surfers and wildlife enthusiasts. The combination of dramatic cliff scenery, abundant wildlife and sweeping coastal views makes this one of the most rewarding short walks on the North Devon coast.
