Exmouth to Lyme Regis Walk

28 miles (45 km)

This walk runs along the South West Coast Path from Exmouth to Lyme Regis. It's roughly 28 miles, heading east to Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth, Branscombe and Seaton before finishing at the famous Cobb in Lyme Regis.
This long-distance walk explores the western section of the Jurassic Coast, passing through a remarkable sequence of cliffs, beaches, estuaries and coastal villages.... Beginning at the mouth of the River Exe, the route follows the coastline beneath striking red Triassic sandstone cliffs before continuing into the chalk, limestone and mudstone landscapes that characterise the Devon and Dorset coast.
From Exmouth the path passes the pebble beach at Budleigh Salterton and climbs onto the clifftops overlooking Lyme Bay. Sidmouth marks the centre of the route, with its elegant Regency seafront framed by the impressive red cliffs of Peak Hill and Salcombe Hill. Beyond Sidmouth, the path continues through the picturesque village of Branscombe before crossing Beer Head, one of the highest chalk sea cliffs in southern England, with far-reaching coastal views towards Seaton.
East of Seaton, the route enters the spectacular Axmouth to Lyme Regis Undercliffs National Nature Reserve, where ancient landslides have created a unique landscape of wooded ravines, rocky outcrops and dense woodland. This nationally important reserve supports an exceptional variety of plants, fungi and woodland wildlife, providing one of the most distinctive sections of the entire South West Coast Path.
The walk finishes in Lyme Regis, one of Dorset's best-known coastal towns. The historic Cobb harbour, fossil-rich beaches, Georgian seafront and the Lyme Regis Museum celebrate the town's internationally important geological heritage and its association with the pioneering fossil collector Mary Anning.
