Minehead to Bossington Coastal Walk
5.7 miles (9.2 km)This walk follows a section of the South West Coast Path and other local footpaths from Minehead to Bossington. It's just under 6 miles following the undulating cliff top path west towards Selworthy Beacon and Bossington Hill before descending into Bossington.
It's one of the finest coastal walks in Exmoor, combining dramatic sea views with expansive panoramas across the surrounding moorland and countryside.... After leaving Minehead, the route climbs steadily onto the high cliffs at the eastern end of Exmoor National Park, where there are extensive views across the Bristol Channel towards South Wales on clear days.
The path traverses heather-clad slopes and open grassland before reaching the prominent viewpoints at Selworthy Beacon and Bossington Hill. These elevated summits provide some of the best coastal views in south-west England, overlooking Porlock Bay, Hurlstone Point and the rugged Exmoor coastline stretching west towards Foreland Point. The surrounding heathland supports a variety of wildlife, including red deer, buzzards and numerous upland bird species.
The descent into Bossington passes through attractive National Trust countryside before reaching the picturesque village, with its traditional cottages and historic setting on the edge of Porlock Bay. Nearby lies Bossington Beach, a broad shingle shore backed by saltmarsh and coastal grazing land, creating an attractive and varied landscape. The combination of high cliff-top scenery, open moorland and sweeping coastal views makes this one of the classic walks on the Exmoor coast.
