Putsborough to Woolacombe Beach Walk

2 miles (3.2 km)

This walk takes you along the beach from Putsborough to Woolacombe on the west-facing coast of North Devon. Starting from the Putsborough Sand car park, the route heads north for 2 miles along Putsborough Beach and then Woolacombe Sand....
The two beaches combine to form one of the longest unbroken stretches of sand in south-west England, backed by dunes and overlooked by the dramatic headland of Baggy Point to the south. At low tide, the wide expanse of firm sand makes for easy walking, while the surrounding cliffs provide impressive views across Bideford Bay, Morte Bay and towards Lundy Island on clear days.
The coastline here lies within the North Devon National Landscape, an area recognised for its outstanding coastal scenery and important wildlife habitats. The dunes and rocky shores support a variety of seabirds and marine life, and grey seals are occasionally seen offshore. The beach is also internationally renowned for its surf, with the Atlantic swell making Woolacombe one of the country's best-known surfing destinations.
At the northern end of the walk, Woolacombe is a lively seaside village with a long history as a holiday resort. The sweeping bay, backed by grassy hills and dunes, has regularly been recognised among Britain's finest beaches and provides a fitting conclusion to this short and scenic coastal walk.
