Val De La Mare Reservoir

2.2 miles (3.5 km)

This circular walk takes you around Val De La Mare Reservoir.
A walk around Val de la Mare Reservoir and its surrounding woodlands offers a serene experience through some of Jersey's most diverse landscapes. Starting from the top car park, you pass the arboretum, often referred to as the "Forgotten Forest".... This botanical haven features a vast collection of exotic trees from around the world, including giant redwoods, Japanese cedars, and eucalyptus trees, all thriving in Jersey's temperate climate. As you transition from the arboretum to the main lakeside path, the trail hugs the water's edge, offering tranquil views where the surface often mirrors the surrounding greenery.
Wildlife enthusiasts can enjoy a variety of sightings, as the area is a known habitat for red squirrels, green lizards, and numerous bird species such as herons, egrets, and owls. Strategic benches are placed along the secluded pathways for those wishing to pause for forest bathing or self-reflection. A major highlight of the walk is reaching the top of the dam, which rewards visitors with expansive, breathtaking views stretching across St. Ouen’s Bay and toward the La Corbière lighthouse.
While generally considered an easy route, walkers will encounter undulating terrain with some steeper sections, particularly when ascending the path alongside the impressive dam.
You can continue your reservoir walking on the island by heading east to visit Queens Valley Reservoir.
