Quietway 2

14.9 miles (24 km)

Ordnance Survey Map Open Streetmap This route is London's Quietway 2, running from Walthamstow in the east to Acton in the West. Please note the section from Clerkenwell through Central London to Paddington is, at time of writing, the proposed route.
The route starts at Walthamstow and heads south west to Walthamstow Marshes where you'll skirt along the edge of the Walthamstow Reservoirs and the Tottenham Marshes Nature Reserve. At the marshes you turn south east to follow a short section along the River Lea and the waymarked Lea Valley Walk.
You then leave the river around Lea Bridge and continue south to Lower Clapton and Hackney. Here you turn west passing Dalston and Kingsland before turning south west near Canonbury. You then head south west past Islington and the Regent's Canal to Pentonville.
The route continues west to Finsbury, Bloomsbury, Marleybone, Paddington and Bayswater where you pass close to Hyde Park and Regent's Park.
From Bayswater you head west to Notting Hill, North Kensington and Wormwood Scrubs Park before finishing in East Acton.

Further Information and Other Local Ideas

See the Quietway 1 for another cycle route in the capital. It runs from Waterloo to Greenwich through Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham and Greenwich. The route uses a series of back roads and quiet streets.
There's also Cycleway 6. This one runs through central London from Kentish Town to Elephant & Castle along safer roads.
Cycle Superhighway 3 is coincident with the route. The popular trail runs from Lancaster Gate to Greatfields Park in Barking, passing several of the city's highlights on the way.

Walthamstow Marshes. This area of wetlands, now a nature reserve, is bounded to the west by the Lee Navigation and is crossed by the railway out of Liverpool Street on an embankment. This view is to the north-east taken from close to the railway bridge over the canal.

Bridge over the Lea. A footbridge over the River Lea at the northern end of North Mill Fields (on the west bank). It appears to have an unusually large span/depth ratio for a flat (non-arched) bridge.
