Cowes to Gurnard Walk
2.3 miles (3.7 km)This walk runs from Cowes to Gurnard on the northern coast of the Isle of Wight. The route starts from Cowes harbour and follows the Isle of Wight Coast Path west for just over two miles, passing Egypt Point on the way.
Perfect for all abilities, this easy, flat route follows a fully paved seafront promenade that offers stunning, uninterrupted views across the Solent toward the Hampshire mainland.... As you set off from the bustling harbour of Cowes, famous worldwide for its rich sailing heritage and prestigious yachting events, you can enjoy watching a diverse array of watercraft, from sleek racing boats to giant ocean liners.
Heading westward along the esplanade, you will soon arrive at Egypt Point, a historic landmark featuring a distinctive black-and-white lighthouse erected in 1897 to mark the northernmost tip of the island. Beyond this famous vantage point, the pedestrianised path guides you gently into the charming coastal village of Gurnard, concluding near the beautiful Gurnard Bay.
Visitors can easily relax at a beachfront café or a traditional pub at the end of the stroll, making it a popular choice for families and dog walkers alike. Because the bay faces due west, it is also celebrated as one of the best spots on the Isle of Wight to witness a spectacular coastal sunset. For travel logistics, ample paid parking is available at both ends of the trail, and regular Southern Vectis local bus services provide a quick return link to the starting point. Mainland visitors can also access the start of this walk directly via the high-speed passenger ferry from Southampton.
