Ryde to Quarr Abbey Walk
This walk follows a section of the Isle of Wight Coast Path from Ryde to Quarr Abbey. Starting at Ryde Pier you follow the waymarked trail for just over 2 miles to reach the ancient site.
Heading west along the seafront promenade, walkers pass the Western Gardens and Ryde Marina before the path joins the coastal tree line. The well-signposted trail transitions from tarmac paths into the peaceful surroundings of Pelham Woods. The path is a fully waymarked segment of the larger 67-mile Isle of Wight Coastal Path loop and is identifiable by distinct blue and white signposts featuring a seagull logo.
The walk concludes at Quarr Abbey which is a working Benedictine monastery founded in 1132. The historic site features the Grade I listed ruins of the original medieval abbey alongside the striking 20th-century red-brick monastery building. The monastery grounds are free to enter and include an informative visitor centre, a licensed courtyard teashop, a farm shop selling local Isle of Wight produce, and a dedicated woodland walk where visitors can view resident red squirrels.
