Mousehole to Porthcurno Coast Walk
7 miles (11.3 oth km)This walk takes you along the South West Coast Path from Mousehole to Porthcurno. The route runs for about 7 miles, heading south west from Mousehole to Lamorna Cove, Boscawen Point, Merthen Point and Penberth Cove before finishing at Porthcurno next to the open air theatre.
This is one of the classic walks on the Penwith coast, linking a series of picturesque coves, granite headlands and historic fishing settlements.... Leaving Mousehole, the path climbs above Mount's Bay before descending to Lamorna Cove, a beautiful inlet long associated with artists and the nearby Lamorna Valley. Beyond the cove, the route passes the rugged cliffs at Boscawen Point and Merthen Point, where panoramic views extend along the spectacular coastline towards Land's End.
Further west, the path reaches the tiny fishing hamlet of Penberth Cove, where traditional granite cottages and an old stone slipway provide a glimpse of Cornwall's maritime heritage. The surrounding cliffs support maritime grassland rich in wildflowers during the spring and summer, while seabirds are frequently seen nesting and feeding along the coastline.
The walk finishes at the magnificent sandy beach at Porthcurno, backed by towering granite cliffs and turquoise waters that make it one of Cornwall's most photographed locations. The beach also played an important role in international communications, serving as the landing point for some of the world's earliest undersea telegraph cables. Just above the beach is the remarkable Minack Theatre, the world-famous open-air theatre carved into the cliffs, with spectacular views across the Atlantic Ocean. Together with the nearby PK Porthcurno Museum of Global Communications, it makes this a fine destination combining dramatic coastal scenery, history and culture.
