Flanders Moss and a small birch wood in the distance. Flanders Moss is like walking on a water-engorged sponge. There are silver birch trees all over the moss. They are all small due to the poor soil conditions.
High Moss Pow, mid-reaches, Flanders Moss. This photo taken looking east shows the contrasting habitat on either side of the shallow valley formed by the High Moss Pow. The foreground is in a natural condition, however the far side of the Pow (with lateral drainage ditches visible) still shows evidence of the former coniferous forestry which was clear-felled.
