Melincourt Falls

1.24 miles (2 km)

Ordnance Survey Map Open Streetmap Enjoy a short walk to these pretty falls from the little village of Resolven in the heart of the Vale of Neath. It's about a one mile walk from the car park in the village to the spectacular 80 feet high waterfall. The route follows the St Illtyd's Walk long distance footpath through some attractive oak woodland. It's a lovely spot with carpets of bluebells in the spring and the rushing waters of the Melincourt Brook. There's also the added advantage of being able to go behind the falls and experience the rushing waters from close up.
The Neath Canal runs past Craig Nedd near the start point for this walk. To extend your walking in the area you can pick up the towpath and enjoy a waterside walk to Glynneath.
There's also miles of trails in Rheola Forest to the east of Resolven.
Our Neath Waterfalls Walk starts in nearby Pontneddfechan. It explores Waterfall Country visiting the spectacular Four Waterfalls Walk.

A person goes behind the waterfall to show that there is indeed a recess in the rocks to allow this to happen. The scale of the waterfall can also be appreciated in comparison with a person standing behind the deluge.

Melin Court Brook. Leaving the road at Melincourt there is a permissive path up the south side of the brook towards the waterfall. Despite the anticipation, there is a delight in observing the lower sections.

Library cave in the woods. Under a rocky overhang out in the woods above Melin Court falls is a surprising sight. This small cave has tens of books all wrapped up in plastic bags. This is a bookcrossing location where people come to swap books. It is also the biggest Geocache container I've ever seen!

Footbridge above the fall. This curious looking footbridge crosses the Melin Court Brook just above Melin Court Falls. The central footbridge seems to be supported by struts to an older looking concrete structure - possibly originally a tramway bridge related to mining in the area.
