Coverack to Porthallow Walk
4.5 miles (7.2 km)This route follows a section of the South West Coast Path from Coverack to Porthallow. The route runs for about 4.5 miles, heading north along the coast to Porthoustock before an inland section takes you to Porthallow.
From Coverack, the path follows a rugged stretch of the Lizard Peninsula coastline with rocky coves, low cliffs and wide views across the English Channel.... The area is shaped by serpentine geology, giving the landscape its distinctive colours and supporting a range of specialised coastal plants adapted to the exposed conditions.
The route passes Porthoustock, a small coastal village set around a shingle beach that has historically been associated with quarrying and the transport of stone from the surrounding area. Offshore, rocky reefs and clear waters provide habitat for seabirds and marine life, while the cliffs above are open and sparsely vegetated.
From Porthoustock, the path turns inland across fields and quiet lanes towards Porthallow, gradually moving away from the exposed coast into a more sheltered agricultural landscape. Porthallow sits at the head of a small inlet and is known for its beach and traditional fishing heritage, marking a quiet finish to this varied coastal walk.
