Elizabeth Castle Causeway Walk

1.4 miles (2.3 km)

This walk visits the historic Elizabeth Castle, off the south coast of Jersey.
The castle is located on a tidal island just south of St Helier and can be reached at low tide on foot.
Starting from the Les Jardins de la Mer car park, this walk begins with a short stroll west along the promenade toward the West Park slipway, located near the large Elizabeth Castle Ferry kiosk. From here, you descend onto the beach to join the ancient, man-made causeway that stretches approximately 1.1 km across the sands of St.... Aubin’s Bay. The path is a mix of concrete and stone, offering a firm but sometimes slippery surface as it leads you directly toward the 16th-century fortress sitting on its rocky islet.
The walk typically takes about 15 minutes each way and is only possible for a window of roughly four hours around low tide. As you cross, you’ll have panoramic views of the St. Helier skyline and the busy Elizabeth Marina to your left, while the massive granite walls of the castle grow larger ahead. It is essential to check the official tide times before setting out, as the tide in this bay returns extremely quickly and can easily cut off the path. If the tide begins to rise during your visit, you can catch the amphibious "Duck" ferry from the castle gates back to the mainland for a small charge.
