This walk visits Lough Gara on the borders of County Sligo and Roscommon.
On the north eastern side of the lough there's a parking area next to Gara Pier. Here you can enjoy a short stroll along the lakeside with lovely views across the water to the surrounding countryside.... It's also good for birdwatching with Greenland White-fronted Geese, Whooper Swans and other waterfowl to see.
You can continue your walking by heading east to visit the town of Boyle and Lough Key Forest Park.

Lough Gara 1
Lough Gara. Lough Gara is a 1,788-hectare lake located on the border of counties Sligo and Roscommon in Ireland, acting as a crucial, shallow, and biodiverse wetland system. It serves as a significant spot for fishing, birdwatching, and water sports, including canoeing and sailing. Historically, the lake is known for its numerous submerged Crannogs (ancient lake dwellings) and the legend of hidden golden gates from Moygara Castle.
