South Milton Sands to Hope Cove Walk

1.2 miles (1.9 km)

This walk takes you from the National Trust's South Milton Sands to Hope Cove along the South West Coast Path.
The walk runs for about 1.2 miles so around 2.4 miles there and back.
Starting at the iconic golden sands of South Milton, the route heads south along a well-trodden cliff-top path that offers some of the best maritime views in South Devon.... To your right, the famous Thurlestone Rock stands as a massive natural archway in the sea, while the surrounding waters are part of a protected marine area where seals are often seen bobbing in the surf.
As you progress, the path skirts the edge of South Milton Ley, a significant freshwater reed bed that provides a vital habitat for rare migrating birds and aquatic life. The terrain is largely level, crossing through wildflower-rich meadows that hum with insects and butterflies during the summer months. After a short climb over the low headland of Bolt Tail, the trail descends steeply into the charming village of Hope Cove. Here, the path leads directly into the historic heart of Inner Hope, characterised by its cluster of ancient thatched cottages and sheltered sandy beaches that were once the haunt of local smugglers.
