Ordnance Survey Map Open Streetmap This market town is located near Therfield in East Hertfordshire, next to the River Rib. The town includes many historic buildings including medieval timber framed houses and picturesque thatched cottages.
This circular walk from the town takes you south to Aspenden where you can enjoy some views of the impressive Aspenden Hall.
The walk starts in the village and then picks up public footpaths heading south towards Aspenden Hall which dates back to 1856 and is a listed building. You can then follow another footpath back to Buntingford with a riverside path along the River Rib toward the end.

Pubs/Cafes

Back in the village The Bull is a good choice for post walk refreshment. The historic pub includes a secluded garden with a Petanque Piste. You can find them on the high street at postcode SG9 9AG for your sat navs.
Just south of the village is the Sword In Hand which dates back to the 14th century. They do fine food and have beautiful landscaped gardens. The pub lis located in the beautiful cottage-lined village of Westmill, has with views of the 13th Century Church of St. Mary the Virgin and out into the rural open countryside.

Dog Walking

The country trails make for a pleasant dog walk and the Bull mentioned above is also dog friendly.

Further Information and Other Local Ideas

Head west to neighbouring Cottered and you could pick up the Hertfordshire Chain Walk. The waymarked footpath is a great way of exploring the surrounding countryside.
To the east is Great Hormead where you can access the Hertfordshire Way.
