St Leonard's Forest
This large area of woodland is located just to the east of Horsham. There are miles of cycling and walking trails to explore with attractive pine woodland, a series of pretty streams with little waterfalls and the Whitevane Pond at the north western end of the forest. There are good wide tracks ideal for a mountain bike or hybrid. There's some steep climbs to try with fun descents. For walkers there are miles of easy flat tracks to enjoy. Look out for wildlife including peacocks and wood warblers.
The forest can be easily reached by following the High Weald Landscape Trail from the centre of Horsham. You could extend your walking along the trail by heading through the countryside to Slaugham and Warninglid.

Pubs/Cafes
The Hornbrook Inn is located just to the south of Horsham town centre on the Riverside Walk. This rustic pub has a good menu, beamed ceilings, wood panelling, stone floors and a beer garden to relax in. It's located next to Huxley Birds of Prey Centre which is a good option for a day out. This attraction features falcon & owl flying demonstrations & hands-on visitor encounters.
Dog Walking
The forest is perfect for dog walking and you will likely see plenty of other dog walkers in the woods.
Further Information and Other Local Ideas
The woods are located just to the south of Holmbush Woods and Buchan Country Park on the outskirts of Crawley. You could follow bridleways north to visit the woods and the park where there's good trails and a series of pretty ponds.

Sheepwash Ghyll, St Leonard's Forest. Sheepwash Ghyll has cut a deep ravine running over a base of sandstone often forming small 'waterfalls' as here and providing a ford for the footpath going up Scragged Oak Hill (to the right). Sheepwash Ghyll flows out of Whitevane Pond, about 1.5km to the north of this photo, through Roosthole Pond and as Goldings stream into (Birchen) Mill Pond. Flowing out of (Birchen) Mill Pond and under the A281 it emerges as the river Arun on its way to the sea at Littlehampton.
Entrance to Laurel Walk, St Leonard's Forest. The cast iron gate posts and four bar iron gate show this was once a more formal way to Laurel Walk and so to Laurel Walk Wood and was once part of St Leonard's Park. A footpath from the West Sussex County Council stile, but cyclists can whip round the tree to the left.
Scragged Oak Hill in St Leonard's forest. The oak is the 'Sussex weed' and there are many fine examples of the tree in the County and indeed in St Leonard's forest. However this pair are pathetic and typical of the oaks on this hill, scragged by name and nature.

Carpets of bluebells in the forest
A cycle parked against one of the signposts in the woods at a track junction. Part of the High Weald Landscape Trail. The main bridleway through the middle of the forest intersects with several public footpaths. Here we see where one of the paths (part of the route of the High Weald Landscape Trail) leads off along an intersceting track. The View also shows the characteristic trees in this forest, which are mainly pine.
