Braemar River Circular Walk

3.4 miles (5.4 km)

Ordnance Survey Map Open Streetmap This charming circular walk offers a delightful exploration of the River Dee's banks within the picturesque town of Braemar, nestled in the heart of Aberdeenshire.
Starting conveniently at the public parking area right by the river, the initial stretch of the trail guides you northwards, allowing you to quickly immerse yourself in the tranquil beauty of the riverside environment. As the path continues, it gently turns west, revealing more of the Dee's meandering course and offering serene views across the water and the surrounding Caledonian Pine forests that characterise the upper reaches of Royal Deeside.
Along the way, you might catch glimpses of local wildlife, from red squirrels darting amongst the trees to various bird species along the riverbanks. The walk provides a wonderful sense of the wild yet accessible landscape that surrounds Braemar, a village famous for its Highland Games and its connections to the Royal Family through nearby Balmoral Castle. The trail then gracefully loops back, guiding you through the inviting greenery of the Memorial Park, which often features information boards about the area's history and natural environment, offering a pleasant end point to this accessible and scenic ramble through one of Scotland's most beloved villages.
