Cadair Ifan Goch Walk
This walk climbs to the excellent viewpoint on Cadair Ifan Goch in the Conwy Valley just north of Llanrwst, North Wales.
The walk starts from the National Trust car park located at Maenan, just to the south of the hill. From here you can pick up footpaths heading north west through woodland to the 207 metres (679 ft) high summit. From here there are wonderful views across the river valley to the Carneddau mountains in the distance.
Just to the west, on the other side of the river, you can continue your outing on the Dolgarrog Pipeline Walk. This explores the area around the little village, visiting the impressive pipeline structure and the Coedty reservoir. Near here there's also the beautiful Llyn Eigiau where the reservoir dam was breached leading to the Dolgarrog Dam disaster of 1925.

Cadair Ifan Goch with River Conwy in distance. According to legend, the giant Ifan Goch sat on this ledge to cool his feet in the river Conwy below. Another version tells how he is alleged to stand with one foot on Cadair Ifan Goch on one side of the valley, and the other on Pen-y-Gaer on the opposite side of the valley in order to wash his face in the river.
Reed beds in the river valley to the west. As the Afon Ddu approaches the Afon Conwy, thick reed beds appear on both sides of the floodbank. The large, white house in the distance is Plas Maenan, now a hotel but originally the house of the owner of the Aluminium Works. It is supposed that he was able to tell if production was in full swing by looking from his front windows.
