Crosscut Canal Path Cycle and Walk - Tempe - Phoenix
Begin at Evelyn Hallman Park in Tempe, where the paved Crosscut Canal path follows the gentle curve of the historic irrigation canal northward. The wide, smooth trail is lined with desert landscaping—ocotillo, palo verde and mesquite—offering a pleasant, flat route for walkers and cyclists. Less than a mile in you pass the eastern edge of the Desert Botanical Garden before the path threads through low-key residential areas and pockets of riparian vegetation.
About three miles from the start, the Crosscut path merges with the Scottsdale Arizona Canal Path Walk. Here you can turn west to follow the Arizona Canal toward Arcadia Park and the restored Arizona Falls site, or head east into Scottsdale’s canal-side neighborhoods. The junction provides clear wayfinding and access to a wider network of multi-use trails, making this stretch a convenient connector for both recreational outings and longer urban rides.
