Durham to Finchale Priory Walk

This walk takes you from the city centre in Durham to the historic Finchale Abbey.
You can follow a riverside footpath along the River Wear to the ruined abbey. It runs for just over 5 miles along a flat path. Along the way there are nice views of the surrounding countryside to enjoy.
There is the option of using the Weardale Way to return or as an alternative to reaching the abbey. The waymarked walk goes through the countryside and may be a better option after wet weather as the riverside paths can get muddy.
To continue your walking along the Weardale Way you can pick up the Chester Le Street to Durham Walk.
