Farleigh Hungerford Castle. Construction on the castle began in the 1370s under Sir Thomas Hungerford. His son, Walter, a prominent soldier and statesman, significantly expanded the castle in the 15th century, giving it a fashionable quadrangular layout.
Visitors can still explore two tall corner towers from this period, along with a remarkably complete castle chapel featuring impressive family monuments and well-preserved wall paintings. Down in the crypt, you'll find numerous Hungerford lead coffins, some even displaying death masks. To fully immerse yourself in the castle's rich history and the story of the Hungerford family, an audio tour and extensive displays are available in the Priests' House, complemented by engaging activities and book boxes for children.
