Landsford Canal Trail
This walk takes you along the Landsford Canal Trail in the Landsford Canal State Park in South Carolina.
At the picnic area, you'll find three distinct trails: the Canal Trail, Nature Trail, and Eagle Point Trail, each offering a unique experience. The main draw is the 1.5-mile Canal Trail, an easy walk following the 19th-century Landsford Canal, which bypassed the Catawba River's rapids and once served as a vital trade route.
You can start this trail from either the picnic area or the park's south entrance, and remnants of its original stonework and locks are still visible at the southern end. Alternatively, the Nature Trail, also starting at the picnic area, offers a peaceful stroll along the Catawba River, serenaded by tumbling water and bird songs, culminating in an overlook perfect for viewing blooming Rocky Shoals Spider Lilies; check with park staff about potential eagle sightings. For a shorter option, the Eagle Point Trail begins at the picnic area and leads to a bluff overlooking the Catawba River.
