Loch Lochy
Enjoy a waterside cycle or walk along the magnificent Loch Lochy on this route in the Scottish Highlands. On the northern/western side of the loch there is an excellent traffic free cycle and walking trail running along the Great Glen Way. You can park at the little Hamlet of Clunes and then pick up the waterside trail. The trail runs through the woodland of Clunes Forest with the option of extending your walk in the woods.
To extend your exercise you could continue north east along the Great Glen Way and visit Loch Oich, Loch Garry and the Caledonian Canal. At Loch Oich you'll find a great circular cycling and walking trail which explores the woods above the loch.
You could also climb to the munros which rise above the loch. Sron a Choire Ghairbh and Meall na Teanga are just to the west of the path and provide wonderful views over the area.
Just a mile to the west of the car park at the start of this route you will find the more peaceful Loch Arkaig with its lovely pine forest.

Further Information and Other Local Ideas
Head east and there's another lovely lochside walking and cycling trail along the expansive Loch Ericht. The path starts at Dalwhinnie train station and provides splendid views of Ben Alder. Loch Rannoch with its expansive forest is also located in this area.
Head south along the Caledonian Canal and you could visit the splendid Neptune's Staircase. The site is noteworthy as the longest staircase lock flight in Scotland.
At the southern end of the loch you will find the interesting village of Spean Bridge. Here you can enjoy pleasant walks along the River Spean and climb to the Commando Monument where there is a noteworthy memorial and a splendid viewpoint.

Clunes Forest Great Glen Way at Clunes, on the western bank of Loch Lochy.
Standing at the car park on a beautiful summer day there is a wide view over the blue water of the loch possible. The car park is at the southern shore between the Letterfinlay Lodge Hotel and Corriegour Lodge Hotel.
Great Glen Way Road Block. One large boulder on the lightly-surfaced GGW between Clunes and Laggan, placed about halfway, to deter through traffic. To the right, felling of pines has now released spectacular views over Loch Lochy.
