Prince Williams Seat Loop Glencullen Walk

This circular walk climbs to the fine viewpoint at Prince William's Seat in the Wicklow Mountains near the village of Glencullen.
The route climbs steadily across heathery slopes and forest tracks before reaching Prince William’s Seat at just over 550 metres, a broad summit that offers fine views across Dublin Bay, the city and the surrounding Wicklow hills.
The walk starts through sections of forestry where conifers line the track, gradually giving way to more open ground as height is gained. Once on the hillside, the landscape becomes wide and exposed, with heather, bilberry and rough grasses covering the slopes. On clear days the summit panorama is impressive, taking in the Great Sugar Loaf, Bray Head and the Irish Sea to the east, with Kippure and the higher Wicklow Mountains stretching away to the south. The trig point at the top provides a clear landmark and a good place to pause before continuing.
From the summit the looped route descends gently, with the path skirting moorland and patches of woodland before rejoining the forest tracks that lead back to the starting point. The mix of terrain makes the walk varied and enjoyable, with the contrast between shaded woodland, open mountain slopes and far-reaching views. Its accessibility from Dublin, combined with the quality of the scenery, makes the Prince William’s Seat Loop a rewarding choice for those seeking a moderate hike within easy reach of the city.
