Runnymede to Windsor Walk
This walk follows a section of the Thames Path from Runnymede to Windsor.
Begin your walk at the historic Runnymede Meadow, where the Magna Carta was sealed in 1215. From the Runnymede car park, pick up the tranquil Thames Path heading west, with wide riverside views and the gentle flow of the river guiding your way. The path here is flat and well maintained, meandering through open meadows dotted with grazing cattle and wildflowers.
After about two miles, you’ll arrive at the riverside village of Wraysbury. Here the towpath runs close to the village green, and you can pause to admire the Grade II-listed Wraysbury Pumping Station or enjoy a refreshment at the local pub. The riverbanks are lined with willows, and in spring you may spot kingfishers darting along the water’s edge.
Continuing west, the path skirts Ham Island and then crosses over a small lock before reaching the village of Datchet.
In Datchet, the walk takes you past quaint riverside homes and traditional inns. From the village centre, follow the Thames Path under the railway bridge and along the flood meadows until you catch sight of Windsor Castle’s towers ahead. The final stretch leads you into Windsor Riverside, where you can end your six-mile journey with a riverside café break or explore the historic town and castle precincts.
