Wirksworth Star Disc Walk

0.7 miles (1.1 km)

Ordnance Survey Map Open Streetmap This short circular walk takes you to the Star Disc in the town of Wirksworth.
You can find the attraction in Stoney Wood on the western side of the town. There is a circular track named Ascent to the Stars which you can follow through the wood to the Star Disc. Here you'll find a 12-metre (40 ft) illuminated stone circle, created by Aidan Shingler. Its surface of black granite is intricately carved with a star chart, replicating the northern hemisphere's night sky, complete with constellations, their names, and a depiction of the Milky Way. Surrounding this central star map is a contrasting silver granite perimeter featuring 12 stone seats, each representing a month of the year. At night, solar-powered, low-emission lights bring the Star Disc to life.
You can extend the walk by heading north to explore the Middle Peak Quarry where there are some fine views over the area.
