Worsley Trail

15 miles (24 km)

This lovely 15 mile walk runs from Brightstone Down through Godshill and on to Shanklin.
You start of at the car park at Brightstone Down and head towards the pretty of Godshill via Chillerton Down and Shorwell. Godshill is a picturesque village by the River Yar, with a model village and Natural History Museum to enjoy.
The walk continues through Appuldurcombe Down and English Heritage owned Appuldurcombe House which boasts a delightful Owl and Falconry centre. The walk finishes by passing through Wroxhall and then arrives at the pretty coastal village of Shanklin.
The route links with the Tennyson Trail on Brighstone Down.

Pubs/Cafes

In Godshill you can enjoy a pit stop at The Taverners. The ancient inn dates to the 17th century and includes a charming old interior with oak beams, flagstone flooring and open fireplaces. They sell good quality food and also have a garden to sit out in. You can find them at postcode PO38 3HZ for your sat navs. The pub is dog friendly in the bar area. The village is also worth exploring with its thatched cottages and ancient church.

Further Information and Other Local Ideas

Just off the route near Brighstone Forest there's the National Trust's Mottistone Manor to visit. Here you'll find beautiful gardens and bluebell woods in the grounds surrounding this historic Elizabethan manor house.
The Shanklin to Ventnor Railway Walk starts from Shanklin train station and will take you to Wroxall and Ventnor via the old railway line. The first section to Wroxall is also suitable for cyclists.
