Aasleagh Falls Walk

0.6 miles (1 km)

Open Streetmap A walk to Aasleagh Falls offers a short but very rewarding experience near Leenane, County Mayo.
Located on the River Erriff, a well-known salmon fishing river, the falls are a powerful natural spectacle, especially after heavy rain.
The walk is very short and straightforward, beginning from a small car park right off the main road. The trail is a clear, level path that takes you directly to a viewpoint of the waterfall. You’ll be able to hear the roar of the water long before you see it.
The falls cascade over a series of wide, rocky steps, creating a dramatic and picturesque scene. It's a popular spot for visitors and photographers, especially during the autumn salmon run, when you can sometimes spot salmon leaping up the falls on their way to spawning grounds. There's also some fine views of the surrounding hills of the scenic river valley.
To continue your walking in the area you could climb Mweelrea for more excellent views over the area.
