Cookworthy Moor Plantation - - 511907

Cookworthy Moor Plantation. The trees on the right mark the line of a field boundary from pre-plantation times, which ends at a small stream, one of the headwaters of the River Carey. On the right-hand tree is a small fire lookout. Taken from a forest track which runs parallel to the stream, through a cleared corridor close to the southern edge of this large forested area.

The plantation seen across a field from the Ashwater Footpath 4 close to where it leaves the lane from Muckworthy to Luckcroft as a sharp bend.

Halwill Moor Plantation - - 468334

Halwill Moor Plantation. This forms part of the forest which is how it is labelled on the adjacent sign beside this entrance off the A3079 about a kilometre west of Halwill Junction. You can find this area at the south eastern end.

Well and pump, Whiteleigh - - 513540

Well and pump, Whiteleigh. A well is marked on the map a little way down the private drive to Higher Whiteleigh, so perhaps this one has been moved. These are at the point where the track through Whiteleigh Plantation swings north as it progresses up the eastern section of the forest.

Old rail track in Halwill Moor Plantation - - 511619

Old rail track in Halwill Moor Plantation. The former railway line from Halwill to Holsworthy runs for over 3 kilometres through Cookworthy Forest, and although it is shown as a cycle route on the maps, it is not cyclable - the section shown is an easy bit. In fact, a cycle / footpath (the Ruby Trail) runs alongside to the north. Here, the remains of an embanked stretch would have carried the line across a small stream.
