3.4 miles (5.5 km)

Ordnance Survey Map Open Streetmap This circular walk explores the Monks Wood nature reserve near the village of Woodwalton in Cambridgeshire.
The ancient woods are located just to the west of the village and include a series of peaceful woodland trails, ponds, streams, and herb-rich grassland. The significant lowland wood is lovely in spring when you can see bluebells and lots of woodland birds.
To continue your walking in the area you could head north east to visit Woodwalton Fen where you'll find a wide variety of birdlife.

Cattle by a pond in Monks Wood

Cattle by a pond in Monks Wood. There are two large fields in Monks Wood, which contain many uncommon grassland plants. The fields are grazed each year by cattle to maintain the open habitat. Ponds have been dug in recent years to provide water for the cattle and the ponds also attract wildlife such as newts and dragonflies.
