Preston Guild Wheel

This circular cycling and walking route takes you on a tour of the parks, rivers, docklands and countryside around Preston in Lancashire. The loop runs for just over 20 miles and is well signed throughout.
Route highlights include the delightful Avenham Park with its riverside gardens and a stretch along the Riversway Docklands and Marina. There are also long waterside sections along the River Ribble and a visit to the peaceful Brockholes Nature Reserve.

Pubs/Cafes
There are nice cafes in both Avenham Park and the Brockholes Nature Reserve. You can make a pit stop here for refreshments or there's a nice pub at the Docklands with views of the marina.

The Old Tram Bridge across the Ribble in Preston, Lancashire, England. This is a 1960s concrete replica of a wooden trestle bridge that once carried the Lancaster Canal Tramroad across the river. The trail runs along the River Ribble through Avenham Park here.
Preston 'Riversway' Docklands. Preston's Albert Edward dock has been rejuvenated with recreational boating facilities, modern flats and a retail estate. The steeple of St Walburge's Church, one of the highest in England, is visible in the background.
Brockholes Visitor Centre. There's pools, reedbeds and woodland at this nature reserve on the outskirts of Preston. It's great for birdwatching with lots of bird hides and surfaced footpaths to try.
Scrub land near Fishwick Bottoms. This area of scrub just south of the Fishwick estate provides a refuge for wildlife and a place for people to play.
River Ribble upstream from London Road Bridge, Walton-le-Dale. The river runs roughly East-West under London Road bridge, having swept round from the South-East just up-stream.
